The Courtmill – sawmill and mill in Riedau
The LIGNORAMA stands at the old wood and sawmill
The mill here on the museum grounds (the „Hofmühle“, belonging to the former Riedau Castle) has been documented since a long time: Around 1600, an Ulrich Jägernreithmaier is referred to as court miller (as a profession). A little later, a sawmill with a Venetian gate saw was probably connected, both were in operation until 1965.
When the museum was set up, the dilapidated saw could no longer be used. Therefore, the carpentry Gruber, from Taufkirchen an der Pram, provided an identical, about 200-year-old Venetian gate saw.
Since the former mill stream, which once ran between the old mill and the sawmill (see picture below), no longer exists, the overshot water wheel is now electrically driven in show operation. There are also middle and undershot water wheels.
